Data is collected from a variety of sources using OPC and stored
in EWDataWarehouse |
EWDataCollector is the starting point of the EnergyWitness™
Enterprise Energy Management System (EEMS). A large facility will
have 10 20,000 (or more) monitoring and control points within
its Building Automation Systems (BAS). Manually read meters, advanced
metering systems, and utility feeds can add a couple hundred more (a
small increase in number, but critically important). They all generate data. Most of it is never collected, much less evaluated
(we find 98% of data is thrown away). EWDataCollector provides
the first important step of an EEMSgathering the available data!
Gather Your Points and Hold on Fast
Once you capture the data, you can really see how your systems
operate. You can identify problems, resolve them, and save on your
energy bills. EWDataCollector gathers data from chillers, cooling
towers, boilers, air handlers, electrical systems, pumps, motors, valves,
meters, thermostats, set points, occupancy sensors, you name it. Outside data that affects
operations, such as utility company data (electric, natural gas,
water, steam, chilled water), meter data, and weather data are also captured.
No other EEMS consolidates energy data from all sources—only
EnergyWitness.

Data from each point is collected every 15 minutes on a continuous (24x7)
basis. That's 35,040 15 minute intervals a year for every
measurable component in your facility. A moderate sized facility of
15,000 points generates 525 million pieces of data annually. Seem
like too much data to handle? Not for EnergyWitness. More importantly, it is easily
monitored and managed, and is
the basis for insights you've never known possible.
It's important to know when to collect instantaneous readings,
interval averages, and/or totalized data based on how the data will
be used. IDS has the energy systems, facilities, and utility
expertise to understand what data needs to be collected
and how to do it.
EWDataCollector uses an open standard protocol,
OLE for Process Control (OPC), for capturing data from your BAS
and other control points. This enables EWDataCollector to get data
from any BAS that supports OPC, BACnet, LonWorks, or Modbus. All that data gets organized and stored in
the EnergyWitness database,
EWDataWarehouse. With your data
stored and organized, EWViewer will enable you to monitor
system operations in a way never before possible. It's insightful
and it's fast.
